About The Freshwater Trust
The Freshwater Trust is a non-profit organization headquartered in Portland, Oregon. For the past 25 years, The Freshwater Trust has worked to protect native fish and their ecosystems through innovative education and habitat restoration programs.
The Challenge
Although significant funding for stream and river restoration is available, it is too difficult and time-consuming for private landowners to access.
Under the old system, the rate at which restoration takes place makes it unrealistic for The Freshwater Trust to achieve its mission: to restore stream health in Oregon.
The Solution
The StreamBank web application is designed to radically streamline and expedite restoration processes by coordinating landowners, project managers, contractors and regulatory agencies within an easy-to-use and secure online system.
StreamBank has been put through its paces on 20 pilot projects in 2007 and 2008 with over 30 planned for 2009. These projects were an overwhelming success and realized an average efficiency increase of 80% over traditional restoration processes. Their success has been widely acknowledged and has driven a rapid increase in adoption and support of the software.
Oregon's governor, Ted Kulongoski has recognized the importance of StreamBank and hs designated it an Oregon Solutions project.
